How I Met Your Mother fans may have to wait even longer for How I Met Your Father. TVLine reports the spin-off has been delayed because of the NBC drama This Is Us.
Earlier, we reported This Is Us writers Isaac Aptaker and Elizabeth Berger are developing a new spin-off to the long-running CBS sitcom, which ended in 2014. A previous attempt, How I Met Your Dad, was written by series creators Carter Bays and Craig Thomas but it never made it past the pilot stage.
Now, How I Met Your Father has been put on the backburner because Aptaker and Berger have been promoted to co-showrunners on This Is Us. The spin-off, which is still in the early stages of development, has been described as How I Met Your Mother but told from a female perspective. None of the original HIMYM castmembers are expected to star in the project, which is not yet attached to a network.
