Mighty Morphin Power Rangers will be back on the big screen next month, and there is already word of a new reboot series in the works. This will not be your traditional Power Rangers you watched as a kid though!
The Power Rangers are going R-rated for their next series if these plans move forward. Adi Shankar revealed his plans for a new Power Rangers series in an interview with Polygon. He said the following:
“It’s a complete retelling of the first three seasons. And it’s going to be really … dark. Darker than any other Power Rangers series. If you look at what shows are like today, they’re long movies. It’s a format paradigm and I want to explore creating these types of new shows with Power Rangers. We’re going to focus on the beats of what made each show great and turn that into one, entirely new Power Rangers series.”
Shankar would like to bring the series to Netflix in the next 18 months. He said the following about his approaching Netflix for the new series:
“Netflix is doing what every other network should be doing. I’ve worked with almost every network and Netflix just gets it. The world we live in now has disrupted the idea of what entertainment is and Netflix gets it.”
