Modern Family: Season Nine in Question as Production Wraps

Will there be another season of Modern Family? According to The Hollywood Reporter, season eight is about to wrap and the future of the ABC series is still uncertain.

The long-running sitcom stars Ed O’Neill, Julie Bowen, Jesse Tyler Ferguson, Sofía Vergara, Ty Burrell, Eric Stonestreet, Sarah Hyland, Ariel Winter, Nolan Gould, Rico Rodriguez, and Aubrey Anderson-Emmons.

Apparently, the show’s producing studio, 20th Century Fox Television, has not yet settled contracts with the cast for a ninth season. Typically, contract negotiations would be done before the current season wraps. However, there seems to be a hold-up between 20th Century Fox and ABC over the cost of the sitcom.

Modern Family, which is the network’s top-rated show, comes with a large cost. The main cast is reportedly earning $350,000 an episode and will likely ask for more for season nine. When the cast renegotiated their paychecks ahead of season four, the process resulted in a very public lawsuit against 20th Century Fox.

Still, a ninth season of the sitcom is likely. Modern Family still delivers big ratings for ABC. So far, season eight is averaging a 2.25 rating in the 18-49 demo and 7.267 million viewers.

What do you think? Do you watch Modern Family? Do you want a ninth season?
