Remember The Munsters? Well, the classic sitcom’s spin-off movie Munster, Go Home! was released in theaters 50 years ago today.
The ’60s comedy starred Fred Gwynne as Herman Munster, the patriarch of a working-class family made up of monsters who closely resembled Frankenstein’s monster, Dracula, werewolves, and more. The cast also included Al Lewis, Yvonne De Carlo, Butch Patrick, and Pat Priest. The sitcom began in 1964 and ran for two seasons before ending in 1966.
The same year the series ended, Universal Studios released Munster, Go Home!—the show’s first feature film spin-off. The movie followed the family to England, where they have inherited the illustrious Munster Hall.
In addition to the regular cast, the film starred Hermione Gingold, Robert Pine, and John Carradine. Munster, Go Home! is notable due to its use of technicolor. The TV show was filmed in black and white.
