Murder, She Wrote: Angela Lansbury on Reboot; A Different Title?

murder she wrote Actress Angela Lansbury, who is perhaps best known for playing author and amateur sleuth Jessica Fletcher on Murder, She Wrote, thinks NBC’s proposed reboot is a mistake.

In a recent interview she said, “I think it’s a mistake to call it Murder, She Wrote, because Murder, She Wrote will always be about a Cabot Cove and this wonderful little group of people who told those lovely stories and enjoyed a piece of that place, and also enjoyed Jessica Fletcher, who is a rare and very individual kind of person… So I’m sorry that they have to use the title Murder, She Wrote, even though they have access to it and it’s their right.”

Oscar-winner Octavia Spencer is expected to be the new show’s lead and Lansbury respects her work, saying, “I saw her in The Help and thought she was absolutely wonderful, a lovely actress… So I wish her well, but I wish it wasn’t in Murder, She Wrote.”

Deadline reports that NBC may or may not call the new show Murder, She Wrote. Either way, producers decided early on that Spencer’s character won’t be named Jessica Fletcher.

The producers of the new show and Lansbury’s people have apparently been in ongoing discussions about her having some kind of role in the new series. It looked like things were going well until Lansbury’s statements today.

What do you think? Do you think the new show should be called Murder, She Wrote? Would you like to see Lansbury on television again?
