The Musketeers: “No Chance for Season Four” Says Showrunner

The Musketeers season two

Sorry, Musketeers fans. The showrunners for the BBC action-adventure drama recently told SpoilerTV there would be “no chance for season four.”

The series, which stars Tom Burke, Santiago Cabrera, Howard Charles, and Luke Pasqualino as the Alexandre Dumas characters, is ending after its upcoming third season.

Showrunners Simon J. Ashford and Simon Allen told fans they can expect a lot from season three, including a former Doctor Who guest appearance and plenty of villains:

It’s a new world. A seething, rebellious Paris, at odds with itself, is our backdrop now. What the Musketeers have seen in the war has changed them and what they come home to (the thing they’ve been supposedly fighting for) unsettles and disturbs them.

They’ll have different opinions about what’s going on and how to deal with it. But the bond between them is deep and solid. The brotherhood endures.”

They added that season three will be more serialized, with the season jumping ahead four years after season two ended:

We’ve given the show a real boost of energy, excitement and danger. Nothing can be taken as read in this world.”

When asked if the show would ever continue in the future, Ashford said they’d be interested. However, both were quick to say season three would be the end for now:

No chance for Season 4 I’m afraid.

We knew this was the final season as soon as we got the greenlight. We can’t say anything about deaths.”

The third and final season of The Musketeers is expected to air this summer on the BBC.

What do you think? Are you a fan of The Musketeers? Are you sad it’s ending? What do you hope happens in the final season?
