We know Pablo Escobar won’t show up in the new season of Narcos, but who else isn’t coming back? According to The Hollywood Reporter, Boyd Holbrook will not return for season three of the Netflix TV show.
Holbrook played DEA agent Steve Murphy on the first two season of the crime drama, which tracks the rise of cocaine cartels in Colombia. The cast also includes Pedro Pascal, Alberto Amman, and Damian Alcazar.
Season three of Narcos will introduce a new storyline and follow the rise of the Cali Cartel—the successors to Pablo Escobar’s cocaine empire. However, it looks like Holbrook will not be part of the new story.
Netflix has not provided a explanation for Holbrook’s exit, but the reason could be historical. The real-life Steve Murphy left Colombia shortly after Escobar’s death in 1993.
The new season of Narcos premieres on Netflix on September 1st.
