Deadline Hollywood reports that NBC is developing a dramedy based on former Texas State Senator, Wendy Davis. You remember Davis — she of the pink sneakers who rose to national prominence after filibustering anti-abortion legislation in the Texas State Senate for 11 hours, without a bathroom break.
From Deadline:
Written by Jennifer Cecil, the untitled project centers on a female Democratic senator who, after losing the Texas governor’s race, gets her world turned upside down. In the vein of The Good Wife, while she pieces her pride back together, she goes to work in the law firm of her best friend — a black male Republican — and discovers that with no political future to protect, she can unshackle her inner badass.
Cecil and Davis executive produce alongside Sue Naegle via her Naegle Ink banner and Karen Sherwood. Universal TV is the studio.
Looks like E! Online‘s John Boone ought to play the lottery. Back in June 2013, he said Davis’s story should be on screen (albeit the big screen), with Connie Britton in the title role.
From E! Online:
Think of Wendy Davis as a superhero of sorts and you’ll understand why her story is perfect for a big-screen adaptation: Yesterday, the Texas senator attempted a 13-hour filibuster to stop an anti-abortion bill from passing through the Republican-dominated legislate. […]
And we’ve got the perfect cast all lined up, starting with the most obvious: Connie Britton as Wendy Davis. Connie can play tough and vulnerable (both traits required for this role) and, in our opinion, is severely underused by Hollywood.
What do you think? Do you like the premise of this show? Would you tune in, or would the politics turn you off?
