Last week, we reported that NCIS star Michael Weatherly is leaving the CBS series at the end of the current season. Now, TVInsider reports that his former love interest, Ziva David, will not be returning for the big farewell.
Weatherly has played Agent Tony DiNozzo since the series began in 2003.
CBS Entertainment president Glenn Geller said that the NCIS writers are currently “working on how Michael’s character will be written out.” Geller also mentioned that there are “not currently” plans for Ziva (Cote de Pablo) to return.
So what will happen without Weatherly? Geller hinted that the popular series might introduce some new characters:
It’s not a direct replacement of Tony DiNozzo, but we are looking at a couple of additions this season.”
NCIS is currently in the middle of its 13th season and remains the most-watched scripted show on network TV, with high ratings and an average so far of 16.966 million viewers per episode.
