New Girl: Season Seven Ratings

New Girl TV show on FOX: season 7 ratings (canceled, no season 8)

This time out, the Nielsen ratings shouldn’t determine whether the New Girl TV show is cancelled or renewed for season eight on FOX. Back in May of 2017, the network renewed it for a shortened seventh and final season. While it is sad it is ending, the good news is that the writers have had plenty of time to craft a satisfying ending and provide fans with some closure. Still, we’re tracking the ratings, because they give us a good benchmark to use when determining whether other FOX TV series will be cancelled or renewed, so stay tuned.

FOX sitcom, New Girl stars Zooey Deschanel, Jake Johnson, Max Greenfield, Lamorne Morris, and Hannah Simone, with guest star Nasim Pedrad. The ensemble comedy centers on Jess (Deschanel), a free-spirited young woman and her friends. Together, they serve as something of a chosen family as they navigate modern love and friendship. The seventh season kicks off with Jess and Nick (Johnson) together, having just returned from a whirlwind European book tour. Meanwhile, stay-at-home dad Schmidt (Greenfield) and working mom Cece (Simone) are raising their daughter, Ruth, and Winston (Morris) and Aly (Pedrad) are married, with a baby on the way.

The ratings are typically the best indication of a show’s likelihood of staying on the air. The higher the ratings (particularly in the 18-49 demo), the better the chances for survival. This chart will be updated as new ratings data becomes available — usually the next day, around 11:30am EST/8:30am PST. Refresh to see the latest.

5/16/18 update: You can see the rest of the latest night’s ratings.

For comparisons: The sixth season of New Girl on FOX averaged a 0.93 rating in the 18-49 demographic and 2.059 million total viewers (live + same day ratings).

Note: These are the Live + Same Day Ratings which include “live” viewing plus delayed DVR viewing, up until 3am local time that same night. Ratings marked with an “*” are the fast affiliate ratings and will be updated with the Live+SD numbers when they are made available. Typically, networks get paid for C+3 ratings which includes DVR viewing within three days of the original airing when commercials are watched. Those numbers are rarely released to the press.
