This sitcom revolves around Jess Day (Zooey Deschanel), a happy free-spirited girl who has a unique way of seeing the world. She comes home early one day to surprise her boyfriend and is crushed when she finds him sleeping with another woman. Jess temporarily moves in with her best friend from childhood, a no-nonsense model named Cece (Hannah Simone), but needs to find her own place. A posting on Craig’s List leads Jess to find a great loft apartment — that she shares with three young single guys who she never met before. Nick (Jake Johnson) was recently dumped by his girlfriend and is still nursing his bruised ego. When things get to be too much, he hides under his hoodie. He’s the most grounded of the group but also the most jaded. He works as a bartender, having previously dropped out of law school.
