TV show description:
Fresh from Wisconsin, Dave Nelson (Dave Foley) has been hired to be the news director of WNYX in New York City. He starts his job only to discover that his boss, eccentric radio station owner Jimmy James (Stephen Root), hasn’t fired his predecessor yet. It’s an interesting way to start a new job.

Covering the morning news in the WNYX newsroom are overachieving on-air personality Lisa (Maura Tierney); egotistical co-anchor Bill McNeal (Phil Hartman); co-anchor and Bill’s rival, Catherine Duke (Khandi Alexander); and clumsy reporter Matthew Brock (Andy Dick). Other interesting characters include Beth (Vicki Lewis), Dave’s outspoken secretary, and the station’s electrician and conspiracy theorist, Joe Garrelli (Joe Rogan).

When Bill unexpectedly dies, he’s replaced by Max Louis (Jon Lovitz), an unprofessional newsman who was Bill’s former colleague.

Though baby-face Dave looks naive, he asserts his role in the newsroom time and time again. However, Dave never quite gets control of the big personalities at WNYX except for Lisa, with whom he shares a secret office romance.

Dave’s colorful staff knows how to push Dave’s buttons and together they operate more like a dysfunctional family than a newsroom. Rivalry ensues when stories are re-assigned and even when a staff member receives a new desk. In this wacky newsroom there are just as many stories off the air as on it.
