Could we be headed back to The OC? The producers of the cancelled FOX series recently reunited to discuss the show, Deadline reports.
Created by Josh Schwartz, the teen drama starred Adam Brody, Benjamin McKenzie, Mischa Barton, Rachel Bilson, Peter Gallagher, and Kelly Rowan. The series debuted in 2003 and ran for four seasons until it ended in 2007.
Speaking at this year’s ATX Television Festival in Austin, Schwartz said they went into season four as if it was the final season:
I think going into it we had a feeling it would be our final season, and so it was very freeing. We got to do a lot of things that we probably would have felt uncomfortable doing before.”
He also explained the decision to kill off Marissa Cooper (Barton) at the end of season three:
It’s complicated. There were a lot of factors involve and it was something we really wrestled with. There were reasons both creative and just in terms for the show itself and where we were with the network.”
Executive producer Stephanie Savage said a fifth season of the show would’ve been unlikely:
Yeah, I mean I would say after season four we were feeling like, it’s tricky to get the kids out of high school. … Once we were in Season 4, we realized we couldn’t do this forever.”
What do you think? Did you watch The OC? Would you like to see some sort of reunion or revival series?
