TV show description:
Lily Manning (Sela Ward) has recently separated from her husband, Jake (Jeffrey Nordling), and is raising their daughters alone in the suburbs of Deerfield, Illinois; anxious 14-year-old Grace (Julia Whelan) and sweet nine-year-old Zoe (Meredith Dane).
With the recent demise of her marriage, Lily realizes that her future isn’t at all how she’d imagined. Overwhelmed with where to go next in her life, she sometimes leans on her sister, Judy (Marin Hinkle). But life seems to have a plan for Lily as she meets Rick Sammler (Billy Campbell) in the principal’s office of Grace’s high school.
Rick is a single parent too. He’s divorced from Karen (Susanna Thompson) with whom he has two children; basketball-playing 16-year-old Eli (Shane West) and wistful 12-year-old Jessie (Evan Rachel Wood). Rick’s connection to Lily is immediate but doesn’t carry over to either of their families. Grace doesn’t want to put an end to the dreams of her parents reuniting and Jessie longs for the days when her family didn’t include the Manning’s. Even Judy and soon-to-be-ex-husband Jake has a hard time accepting Lily’s new found happiness.
As Rick and Lily grow closer and integrate their families under one roof, they face the challenges of blending families together and prove that, if love can be found once, it certainly can be found again.
