Henry Pollard (Adam Scott), is in his mid-thirties and, after some success, has given up his dream of being a professional actor. He reluctantly returns to work for Party Down under the supervision of his friend Ron. He eventually becomes the new team leader of Party Down. While he enjoys the increased paycheck, he’s not thrilled with the added responsibilities of leading the less-than-professional workers. He’s no longer dreaming of what could be and is trying to be more practical.

Ronald Wayne Donald (Ken Marino) loves being a caterer and is super chipper and controlling. He tries opening his own salad and soup franchise but eventually ends up coming back to Party Down, wanting Henry’s job.
