The Path, Harlots, Mindy Project: Hulu Announces Premieres

Hulu TV show premieres mid-season (canceled or renewed?)

Some more TV is on its way. Today, Hulu announced its mid-season programming slate. Let’s hit the returning series, first. Season two of The Path premieres Wednesday, January 25th. The Mindy Project returns for season 5B, on February 14th. In addition, season three of Casual kicks off on Tuesday, May 23rd.

The streaming platform has two new TV shows on the way, too. Harlots premieres on Wednesday, March 29th. The drama stars Samantha Morton, Lesley Manville, Jessica Brown Findlay and Eloise Smyth. And while Hulu has not revealed the exact premiere date for The Handmaid’s Tale, the dystopian series will start up sometime in April. Elisabeth Moss, Joseph Fiennes, Yvonne Strahovski, Samira Wiley, Max Minghella, Madeline Brewer, Ann Dowd and O-T Fagbenle star.

HULU MID-SEASON SLATE

THE PATH

Season Two
Premiere Date: Wednesday, January 25th
Cast: Aaron Paul, Michelle Monaghan, Hugh Dancy, Kyle Allen, Emma Greenwell, Rockmond Dunbar, Paul James and Leven Rambin.
Crew: The Path comes to Hulu from Universal Television True Jack Productions and is created and executive produced by Jessica Goldberg. Exeuctive produced by Jason Katims and Michelle Lee.

Synopsis: In its second season, The Path follows the Meyerist Movement as it tries to make sense of Doctor Meyer’s mysterious departure. Tormented by strange visions, Eddie struggles with a new life in the secular world while Sarah, despite her skepticism of Cal, now stands beside him as Co-Guardian of The Light. When Sarah finally learns of Cal’s dark past, she buries the truth for the betterment of The Movement. Cal and Sarah, now closer than ever, strive to atone for their misdeeds while Eddie, confronted with the meaning of his visions, discovers the truth of Doctor Meyer’s departure.

THE MINDY PROJECT

Synopsis: The Mindy Project is back, and Mindy’s life is as complicated as ever! Picking up where things left off after the mid-season finale, Mindy (Mindy Kaling) is reeling from getting dumped by her boyfriend Ben (Bryan Greenberg) and finds herself with a magical chance to make things right. But it’s not just her love life that’s up in the air. Morgan (Ike Barinholtz), Jeremy (Ed Weeks), and the rest of the Shulman and Associates staff are back for more drama: Can Jody (Garret Dillahunt) finally get over his feelings for Mindy? Harlots is a powerful family drama set in 18th Century London that offers a brand new take on the city’s most valuable commercial activity – sex.

THE HANDMAID’S TALE

Season One

Crew: The Handmaid’s Tale comes to Hulu from MGM Television and is created, executive produced and written by Bruce Miller. Executive produced by Warren Littlefield, Daniel Wilson and Fran Sears, and Ilene Chaiken. MGM will serve as the international distributor for the series.

Synopsis: The drama series, based on the award-winning, best-selling novel by Margaret Atwood, is the story of life in the dystopia of Gilead, a totalitarian society in what was formerly part of the United States. Facing environmental disasters and a plunging birthrate, Gilead is ruled by a twisted fundamentalist regime that treats women as property of the state. As one of the few remaining fertile women, Offred (Elisabeth Moss) is a Handmaid in the Commander’s household, one of the caste of women forced into sexual servitude as a last desperate attempt to repopulate a devastated world. In this terrifying society where one wrong word could end her life, Offred navigates between Commanders, their cruel Wives, domestic Marthas, and her fellow Handmaids – where anyone could be a spy for Gilead – all with one goal: to survive and find the daughter that was taken from her.

CASUAL

Season Three
Premiere Date: Tuesday, May 23rd

Cast: Michaela Watkins, Tommy Dewey, Tara Lynne Barr and Nyasha Hatendi.
Crew: Casual comes to Hulu from Lionsgate and is created and executive produced by Zander Lehmann. Executive produced by Jason Reitman, Helen Estabrook and Liz Tigelaar. Lionsgate will serve as the international distributor for the series.

Synopsis: The surprising consequences following Charles’ death and Valerie’s decision to move out propel the trio to rebel, exploring different jobs, partners, and unfulfilled passions. As they adjust to a new normal, can they maintain boundaries or will they revert to the comfort of codependency?
