Pay TV Is Down But Number of Viewing Households Continues to Grow

Rabus Carmen Olga

A new report from Nielsen revealed something surprising. As 2017 begins, it was reported that less people are paying for cable and satellite services. Yes, more people appear to be cutting the cord to save money.

Deadline reported that pay television services are down by 3.4%. That is bigger than the drop reported last December by .1%. Back in September, Nielsen reported that 116 million homes subscribed to pay television services.

These numbers do not include people that subscribe to services like Playstation Vue or SlingTV. Those subscribers might increase the numbers slightly.

Even with the drop in numbers of pay TV subscribers, there is a number that increased – there are more television viewing homes.
