We are sorry to report actor James Douglas died on March 5, 2016. Perhaps best known for his roles on cancelled TV shows like the daytime soap operas As the World Turns (CBS), One Life to Life (ABC) and ABC’s primetime soap, Peyton Place, Douglas had a long TV career.

His first appearance was on The Millionaire TV series, in 1957. Director James Sheldon, who died on Saturday, March 19, directed that series. Other TV appearances by Douglas include the soap operas Another World, The Doctors, and The Edge of Night, as well as primetime offerings like 12 O’Clock High, Ironside, and Spenser for Hire.

Deadline reports the Douglas family has confirmed the actor’s passing, in Bethlehem CT. He was waked on March 17 and 18th. Here’s more:

During the five seasons (1964-69) that Peyton Place set the bar for timely, often risqué TV drama, Douglas played lawyer Steven Cord on some 400 episodes of the half-hour serial based on Grace Matalious’ scandalous 1956 novel. Cord had an intermittently fiery romance with Betty Anderson (played by Barbara Parkins), in which his rival was Ryan O’Neal’s Rodney Harrington, Cord’s half-brother. […]

Douglas played another lawyer, Grant Colman, on As The World Turns from 1973 to 1981 and a few times after, the last 1n 1995.

As documented on his page at IMDb.com, Douglas’s last TV role before his retirement, was playing Dr. Marcus Polk on One Life to Live, between 1985 and 1987.

According the the Deadline report, Mr. Douglas was predeceased by his wife, Dawn, but the year of her death is not cited. This actor leaves behind his three children, Kimberly, Taryn and Cort. He is also survived by six grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
