Pitch, The Exorcist: Season Two Chances Still Alive Says FOX Boss

Fans of Pitch and The Exorcist have reason to be optimistic. FOX boss Dana Walden recently discussed the season two chances for the TV series, Deadline reports.

Both shows ended their freshman seasons this past December, earning lower-than-expected ratings. Pitch, which stars Kylie Bunbury as the first female player for Major League Baseball, averaged a .83 rating in the 18-49 demo with a total of 3.032 million viewers. The Exorcist, which is based on the classic 1973 horror movie, brought in even lower ratings, with an average rating of .68 in the 18-49 demo and only 1.914 million viewers.

However, the low ratings don’t necessarily mean FOX will cancel the series. At a recent conference, Walden said second seasons for both shows are “in the conversation”:

Both are very much in the conversation. Not sure. Exorcist actually improved our time period on Friday night by about 35% and it’s an interesting opportunity. It’s never going to be a big ratings winner because of the serialized nature but I thought the show was really good and it was very consistent. Pitch? Bigger conversation.”

And what is that conversation for Pitch? Walden says the network has a tough decision to make:

It’s a female-skewing idea, but it’s about baseball and men watch baseball. So we’ve tried and the delayed-viewing is excellent. Now we have to make a tough decision which is in this environment is it possible to grow Pitch to 6 or 7 million viewers on a seven-day metric?”

What do you think? Are you a fan of Pitch and/or The Exorcist? Do you want a second season?
