Preacher: Showrunner Plans to Expand Show’s Universe in Season Two

Preacher TV show on AMC: season 1 (canceled or renewed?).

Preacher‘s first season just premiered two weeks ago, but showrunner Sam Catlin is already planning season two. In a recent interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Catlin discussed the future of the AMC series.

The dark comic-drama stars Dominic Cooper as Jesse Custer, a small-town Texas preacher who becomes inhabited by a mysterious and powerful force. Ruth Negga and Joseph Gilgun also star.

In the interview, Catlin said the end of season one will center on the connection between the Saint of Killers and Jesse:

The story of the cowboy will continue to be told over the first season. Then, by the end of the first season, you’ll realize why he has everything in the world to do with Jesse.”

Catlin said the series will continue to expand its universe, in the vein of Breaking Bad‘s second season:

In season two, we told the story of the plane crash. Preacher lends itself to that kind of storytelling. It’s a way of expanding the universe, especially because season one is going to be the most contained of all the seasons. It’s a way of telling the audience that this isn’t just about a small town in West Texas. It’s about the entire world.”

AMC has not yet renewed Preacher for a second season.

What do you think? Have you seen Preacher? Do you want it to be renewed?
