Pretty Little Liars: Series Creator Discusses Alternate Endings and Possible Reunions

Pretty Little Liars TV show on Freeform: (canceled or renewed?)

After seven seasons, Pretty Little Liars aired its series finale last night. But is that it for the TV show? Recently, creator I. Marlene King spoke with Deadline about the end of the Freeform series and the possibility of a future reunion.

The long-running drama revolves around a group of young women from the little town of Rosewood, PA who have plenty of secrets. The cast includes Troian Bellisario, Ashley Benson, Lucy Hale, Shay Mitchell, Sasha Pieterse, Ian Harding, Janel Parrish, Tyler Blackburn, Laura Leighton, and Keegan Allen.

WARNING: PRETTY LITTLE LIARS SPOILERS AHEAD!

In the interview, King revealed there was an alternate ending planned for Pretty Little Liars:

The original ending was going to be the PLLs saying goodbye, but we really felt like we needed a twist upon the twist — but not a twist that somehow affected the PLLs because we wanted fans to have closure. So that’s when we started a dialogue about, how could we play with something here? And it just felt like so much fun to have Mona stealing the game and being A.D. for one final time.”

Later, King also mentioned there could be a reboot of the Freeform series down the line:

That’s not something that we’re talking about right now, but down the line a possible reboot of the show would be fun. But for right now that was just us wanting to say that even though this chapter in Rosewood ends, the creepy mythology of this town goes on.

But don’t get your hopes up too soon. King says a reunion would be far in the future if it ever does happen:

I feel like we’re just saying goodbye. I mean, we’ve talked about doing a panel somewhere, that kind of a reunion, but everybody’s gotta go off and stretch their creative muscles and really fly with their own wings a little bit. If the stars align at the right time and everybody’s available, then we could talk about something else, but that would be years from now.”

What do you think? Do you watch Pretty Little Liars? Did you like the series finale? Would you watch a reunion?
