TV show description:
A prequel to the Helen Mirren police drama, and adapted from the Lynda La Plante novel Tennison, the Prime Suspect: Tennison TV show airs on ITV in UK as Prime Suspect: 1973. The series centers on Jane Tennison (Martini) in the early days of her career.

Although just a naïve 22 years of age, WPC Jane Tennison is a passionate, if inexperienced new recruit, in a chauvinistic era, where the upper ranks are resistant to females on the force. Her mother, Joyce (Somerville) is inclined to agree and wishes Jane were more like her domestically inclined sister, Pam (Day).

Jane reports to DI Len Bradfield (Reid), a demanding boss with exacting standards. When they begin working Julie Ann Collins’ murder, Tennison manages to impress him with her dedication.

Bradfield feels a deep enmity for Clifford Bentley (Armstrong), a criminal he believes is responsible for the death of a colleague. While Bentley is still in prison, he begins planning his next job, along with his sons.

Hot headed DS Spencer Gibbs (Harrison) is a dogged detective and Bradfield’s righthand man. He takes his professional responsibilities seriously, but can go overboard during interrogations. He becomes fully engrossed in the investigation of Julie’s murder.

The crime drama traces the ascent of a rookie police officer working her first murder investigation and how this case primed Jane Tennison to bloom into the daunting woman she is, today.
