TV show description:
As a young boy, Ned discovers that he has a special talent; he can revive the dead with a simple touch. Unfortunately, the power comes with a few caveats. If he touches the revived person a second time, they’ll go back to being dead. If he brings someone back to life for more than a minute, another person nearby will die. He tragically learns how his gift works when he revives his own mother and the father of his young sweetheart Charlotte “Chuck” Charles suddenly drops dead.
Ned (Lee Pace) grows up and opens a pie shop but his gift leaves him wary of becoming close to anyone, much to the chagrin of beautiful waitress Olive Snook (Kristin Chenoweth). Private investigator Emerson Cod (Chi McBride) learns of Ned’s power and convinces the cash-strapped baker to help him solve murder cases (and collect the hefty reward fees). Ned briefly raises the dead and asks them to name their killers before Ned touches them a second time.
Things get complicated when Ned’s childhood sweetheart Chuck (Anna Friel) is murdered on a cruise ship. He returns to his hometown to solve her murder but, after reviving Chuck, can’t bring himself to touch her again. He helps Chuck escape after her odd grieving aunts, Lily and Vivian Charles (Swoosie Kurtz and Ellen Greene), believe they’ve buried her forever.
Once her murder is solved, Chuck becomes the third partner in Ned and Emerson’s business, but encourages them to use their skills for good as well as profit. Ned is overjoyed to be reunited with the only girl he’s ever loved. Life would be perfect, except for one cruel twist — if he ever touches Chuck again, she’ll go back to being dead, this time for good.
The series is narrated by Jim Dale.
