Behind the Scenes

The series attracted almost 10.5 million for its premiere but viewership sharply declined for subsequent episodes. The last episode attracted just over 5.5 million. NBC decided not to renew Raines for a second season.
The script for an eighth episode, entitled “Every Picture Tells a Story,” was written but was not filmed.
In the pilot episode, Mykelti Williamson appeared in a cameo as Detective Bobby ‘Fearless’ Smith, a role he first played on the 2002-03 NBC series Boomtown. Boomtown and Raines were both created by Graham Yost and set in Los Angeles.
In the pilot, Luis Guzman originally played Charlie Lincoln. Guzman was replaced by Malik Yoba and NBC asked producers to reshoot the scenes in which Guzman appeared.
