Ransom: Cancelled; No Season Two for CBS’ Saturday Night Drama

Ransom TV show on CBS: (canceled or renewed?)

CBS’ Saturday night series Ransom was never a huge success, and now it’s been revealed they’ve cancelled the TV show after one season.

5/19 update: Ransom may not be cancelled and could still be renewed for season two. Details here.

The drama follows Eric Beaumont (Luke Roberts), an experienced crisis and hostage negotiator, and his team who are brought in to save lives when no one else can. The cast also includes Brandon Jay McLaren, Nazneen Contractor, and Sarah Greene.

Ransom debuted on a Sunday night in January to a low rating of 0.85 in the 18-49 demo and 6.65 million viewers. Once the show moved to its regular timeslot on Saturday nights, the numbers dropped even further. Overall, season one averaged a 0.43 in the 18-49 demo and 3.46 million viewers, making it CBS’ lowest-rated series for the 2016-2017 season.

However, despite low ratings, the show did have fans. When we asked viewers if they’d watch a second season of Ransom, 91% said “yes.”

Additionally, the show was produced internationally which made it less expensive for CBS than some of the network’s other series. Nevertheless, the network has decided not to move on with Ransom.

What do you think? Did you see Ransom? Do you wish it had been renewed for a second season?
