Jesus has been resurrected. Deadline reports the Smithsonian Channel has ordered a a new series called The Real Jesus of Nazareth.
The docuseries is a followup to the 1977 Franco Zeffirelli mini-series Jesus of Nazareth, which starred Anne Bancroft, Laurence Olivier, Christopher Plummer, and Robert Powell.
The Real Jesus of Nazareth will follow Powell, who played Christ in the original mini-series, “as he returns to the Holy Land to seek out clues to the real historical figure who inspired Christianity.”
From Smithsonian executive David Royle:
Jesus of Nazareth is a cultural phenomenon, and essentially created a new image of Jesus for the television age. It’s a privilege to have gained access to the original film footage and Robert Powell’s unique connection to this story makes him a wonderful and insightful guide to the historical Jesus and the Holy Land.”
What do you think? Have you seen the original Jesus of Nazareth? Will you watch the followup series?
