Was The Real O’Neals ever in trouble? The series’ executive producers deny ABC ever threatened to cut the show’s season two episode order, TVLine reports.

The rumors of an episode cut surfaced after star Noah Galvin made some controversial remarks about Modern Family star Eric Stonestreet, calling his portrayal of a gay character “a caricature of a caricature of a stereotype of stereotype.” The actor later apologized.

At the TCA summer press tour, EP Casey Johnson said the network never threatened to cut anything:

That part of that story is not true. There wasn’t any threat to cut our order or anything like that. ABC’s been incredibly supportive.”

She later added that Galvin regrets what he said:

The article came out and Noah regretted what he said and apologized fairly quickly. I think we’ve all said things we wish we hadn’t. And we all got back to work. So, really, there wasn’t that much buzzing behind the scenes.”

Season two of The Real O’Neals premieres on October 11th.

What do you think? Are you a fan of the ABC show? Do you think Galvin’s comments were inappropriate?
