The Real O’Neals: Season Two Order May Be Cut by ABC

The Real O'Neals TV show on ABC (canceled or renewed?)

Be careful what you say. TVLine reports ABC almost cut the episode order for season two of The Real O’Neals because of some controversial remarks made by star Noah Galvin.

On the sitcom, Galvin plays Kenny O’Neal, a gay teenager who comes out to his conservative Irish-Catholic family. The cast also includes Martha Plimpton, Jay R. Ferguson, Matthew Shively, and Bebe Wood. The show was just renewed for a second season in May.

In a recent Vulture profile, Galvin made some bold statements about Modern Family star Eric Stonestreet, saying:

Because I’ve thrown Eric Stonestreet under the bus a solid seven times this week. No, I think as wonderful of an actor as Eric Stonestreet is — I’ve never met him, I assume he’s a wonderful guy — he’s playing a caricature of a caricature of a stereotype of stereotype on Modern Family.”

Galvin also called Arrow star Colton Haynes’ recent coming out “f—ing p–y bulls–t.” ABC did not react kindly to the remarks, threatening to cut The Real O’Neals‘ season two episode order until an executive producer persuaded the network not to do so.

The actor later apologized for his statements, saying “I think Eric Stonestreet is a wonderful actor. I apologize to everyone I’ve hurt with my comments and understand the damage that has been done. I am new to this and will certainly commit to being more thoughtful and wiser as I navigate all of this moving forward.”

What do you think? Have you seen The Real O’Neals? Will you watch season two? Do you agree with Galvin’s remarks?
