Reba: Showrunner Sues Studio Over Profits

Reba sitcomYet another TV show producer is claiming that the studio hasn’t been forthcoming with series profits. This time, the lawsuit is being filed over money from Reba; the WB sitcom that ran for six seasons before being cancelled in 2007.

In a lawsuit that was filed late last week in Los Angeles Superior Court, former Reba showrunner Allison Gibson targets the series’ production company, 20th Century Fox Television. Her suit alleges causes of action for breach of contract, breach of the covenant of good faith and fair dealing, and fraud.

Gibson acted as showrunner in season one and left the show while preparations were underway for season two. According to THR, she claims that her 10% profit participation of modified adjusted gross was improperly reduced by 20th through various tactics. Gibson says that 20th paid her an advance against profits in 2008 but additional money came due in January 2010.

She claims she’s owed more than a million dollars in damages, based on the improper profit calculation. Gibson previously sued 20th and that lawsuit is currently under appeal.

A studio rep told THR, “Ms Gibson’s complaint, like the one she filed previously, lacks merit and includes claims she previously lost on in court… We anticipate a similar outcome in this case.”

What do you think? Without knowing the specific details, do you think that Gibson has a case?
