Rescue Me: FX Castmates and Writers Reunite in Austin

Rescue Me TV showThe firefighters are back in action. The cast and writers from FX’s cancelled series Rescue Me recently reunited in Austin for the ATX Television Festival, reports The Hollywood Reporter.

The drama follows a group of New York City firefighters in the years following 9/11. The cast included Denis Leary, Mike Lombardi, Steven Pasquale, Andrea Roth, Daniel Sunjata, John Scurti, Callie Thorne, and Jack McGee. The series ran for seven seasons between 2004 and 2011.

Co-creator Peter Tolan said the series was made to remember 9/11 first responders:

It was so hard to do it then. This was really about not forgetting the first responders who died that day and their families and anyone else who was touched by that tragedy. The fact that we did it right then when the wound was still fresh was important.”

Roth commented on the controversy the show received when lead character Tommy (Leary) sexually assaulted his wife (Roth) in season three:

I think that it was a wonderfully written, very complex situation between two incredibly dysfunctional people who love-hated one another. I did not understand everybody’s offense to it because we weren’t condoning the situation. We were just acting how these two characters would act.”

When asked if they’d do another reunion, Leary added: “I want a Rescue Me jet.”

What do you think? Did you watch Rescue Me? Would you like to see a series revival?
