Ripper Street: Series Creator on Ending the TV Show with Season Five

Ripper Street TV show on BBC America: season 3

How will Ripper Street end? Recently, series creator Richard Warlow wrote an article for Radio Times about the future of the UK series.

Earlier, Amazon announced season five would be the final season for the period drama, which stars Matthew MacFadyen, Jerome Flynn, and Adam Rothenberg. The streaming platform picked up the show after BBC One cancelled it.

In the article, Warlow said he wanted to end the show after five seasons on his own terms:

That would be it. No open ends. No series six. Please, Amazon, gives us thirteen installments over two series. We’ll shoot them back to back; it will be one long story that begins in the high summer of Queen Victoria’s Jubilee celebrations and ends on the stroke of midnight as Whitechapel steps in to the twentieth century.

Bless them: they said yes.”

He added that the series will end before 1900:

No further cancellation, as some folk have only too gleeful to report: we – the writers, producers and cast – all decided that this would be it. H Division would not be stepping into the year 1900; not on our beat.”

Here’s the trailer for season four:

What do you think? Are you a fan of Ripper Street? Are you looking forward to the last two seasons?
