NBC is trying something different. Per The Hollywood Reporter, network boss Jennifer Salke recently revealed the episode count for upcoming TV shows Rise and Reverie.

From Jason Katims, Rise stars Josh Radnor as Lou Mazzuchelli, a teacher in doubt who takes over the high school’s theater department. The cast also includes Rosie Perez, Marley Shelton, Auli’i Cravalho, Damon J. Gillespie, Amy Forsyth, Rarmian Newton, Ted Sutherland, Casey Johnson, Taylor Richardson, Joe Tippett, and Shirley Rumierk.

A psychological thriller, Reverie stars Sarah Shahi as a former hostage negotiator who is “brought in to save ordinary people who have lost themselves in a highly advanced virtual-reality program in which you can literally live your dreams.”

During a recent panel at this year’s ATX Television Festival, NBC chief Jennifer Salke revealed both TV shows will only have 10 episodes during their first season:

Part of it is scheduling, part of it is creative. … We’re starting to get the press to understand. … It’s not like, ‘Oh, they lost confidence.’ There’s a smarter strategy afoot.”

NBC has yet to announced a premiere date for Rise and Reverie, but both are expected to debut in 2018.

What do you think? Will you watch Rise and/or Reverie? Do you agree with NBC making seasons shorter?
