The Rockford Files: Alex Fernandez and Melissa Sagemiller Join the NBC Pilot

There’s some more casting news for NBC’s proposed remake of the classic James Garner series, The Rockford Files.

As regular readers know, NBC is attempting a new Rockford Files series and isn’t skimping on the talent. Movie actor Dermot Mulroney has been signed for the private-eye lead role. Alan Tudyk will play his friend on the force, Detective Dennis Becker, and Beau Bridges is set to portray Rocky, Jim Rockford’s sweetheart dad.

Additional casting adds Alex Fernandez (Human Target) and Melissa Sagemiller (Raising the Bar) to the peacock network’s pilot.

Fernandez will take on the role of Lt. Doug Champan, Baker’s hard-nose boss who assumes everyone around him is an idiot. James Luisi played the role in more than two dozen episodes of the original series. He reprised the role in two reunion movies and died in 2002.

Meanwhile, Sagemiller will play Beth Davenport, an attractive and tough lawyer who frequently gets entangled with Rockford, both personally and professionally. Gretchen Corbett portrayed the character in more than 30 installments of the 1974-80 show and three reunion movies.

David Shore (House) and Universal Media Studios are behind the NBC pilot. Once execs at the peacock network have seen the pilot, they’ll make a decision on whether or not they’ll order episodes. Considering the hype and talent, both behind and in front of the camera, it’s presumed that the show’s a lock for the 2010-11 season.

What do you think? Do you like the sound of these casting additions?
