Amazon has broken ties with The Weinstein Company. As a result, Deadline reports the streaming service has made a decision regarding the future of their two planned TV series from the production company—The Romanoffs and David O. Russell’s new drama.
From Mad Men creator Matt Weiner, The Romanoffs is “set around the globe featuring separate stories about people who believe themselves to be descendants of the Russian royal family.” The cast includes Andrew Rannells, Corey Stoll, Mike Doyle, J.J. Feild, Janet Montgomery, and Paul Reiser. Meanwhile, little is known about David O. Russell’s untitled project, but both Robert De Niro and Julianne Moore are attached.
After a series of recent articles accused Weinstein Company co-founder Harvey Weinstein of sexual assault and harassment, Prime Video said they were going to review their two projects with the production company. Now, the decision has been made.
Plans for the David O. Russell project have been cancelled and Amazon will take over production on The Romanoffs, which is currently filming and expected to debut in 2018.
Meanwhile, Russell, Moore, and De Niro have released a joint statement in response to Amazon’s decision:
We support Amazon’s decision as In light of recent news and out of respect for all those affected we have decided together that it is best to not move forward with this show.”
