Is Scream Queens returning for a third season? Deadline reports star Lea Michele has been released from her contract with the FOX TV series.
Michele plays Hester on the horror dramedy from Ryan Murphy. The cast also includes Emma Roberts, Jamie Lee Curtis, Lea Michele, Abigail Breslin, Keke Palmer, Billie Lourd, Glen Powell, Niecy Nash, John Stamos, Taylor Lautner, and James Earl. Season two of the series ended this past December.
Michele was released from her contract with Scream Queens so she could star in a new comedy pilot for ABC. Though FOX has not yet announced whether Scream Queens will be renewed or not, the ensemble show could continue without Michele.
Though, a season three renewal seems unlikely. Season two of the show received poor ratings. It earned an average rating of .61 in the 18-49 demo and a total of only 1.445 million viewers, which is pretty low for a broadcast network like FOX.
