Scream Queens is the latest FOX series by Ryan Murphy, and he has already begun thinking about the second season of the series. However, this series has already had rumors about it being cancelled due to low ratings pop up on various news outlets online.
Ratings for the series premiere were not the best. The Muppets beat the premiere of Scream Queens with its premiere on ABC, but the FOX series does have something going for it – delayed viewership. In fact, that is what might end up saving the series from the television graveyard.
The series has seen an 80 percent improvement on its ratings with delayed viewership. After the premiere with its four million viewers, Ryan Murphy admitted to The Hollywood Reporter that he thought the low ratings meant his career was over.
Far from it actually. Not every Ryan Murphy series is a hit, but he seems to get it right more often than not. American Horror Story premiered its fifth season this month, and it is already bringing in high ratings for FX every Wednesday night.
There is more coming too. Ryan Murphy is already working on a musical dramedy with Gwyneth Paltrow, according to The Huffington Post. Don’t forget that he has American Crime Story set to premiere in February 2016 either. One really does have to wonder where he finds time to fit it all. One also has to wonder how he manages to keep everything straight in his head.
If Scream Queens manages to survive its first season and returns to FOX for a second season, Murphy teased some of his ideas to The Hollywood Reporter.
“He’s already pitched Walden on a broader second season, which would feature a cast of all different age groups. (The current one will likely have four survivors, whom he says will play the same characters in a new venue.)”
On the other side of the coin – if Scream Queens is cancelled, it would not be the first Ryan Murphy to end during season one. NBC cancelled his comedy The New Normal after just one season. That was a personal blow to Murphy because it was based on his own personal experiences.
Murphy is far from dead in this business. He seems to have a lot of ideas in his head. Will every series be a hit? Probably not, but he takes chances. In a landscape of reboots and remakes, that is something one can appreciate.
