Sebastian: Vanessa Lachey Cast in NBC Comedy Pilot

Third time’s the charm? Vanessa Lachey joins the Sebastian TV series pilot at NBC. Lachey played Tracy in Truth Be Told, which was cancelled by NBC last fall, after 10 episodes. She also played Camilla Whittemore on Seth Green‘s Dads TV series, which ran for 18 episodes before being cancelled by FOX, in 2014.

In Sebastian, Lachey has been cast opposite lead actor, creator, and executive producer Sebastian Maniscalco’s title character, Sebastian. She plays his wife Lana. The cast also includes Tony Danza as Sebastian’s father. Steve Talley will play Trevor.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Lachey’s Lana is a “‘pretty, sweet and bubbly woman’ who ‘enjoys people, trusts everyone (at times to a fault) and is always living in the positive’. The only problem? She wishes her husband would stop only following his father’s advice and start considering hers.”

From stand-up comedian Maniscalco and executive producer, Austen Earl, Sebastian features Maniscalco’s title character. He tries to hold fast to his Old-World Italian values instilled by his bullheaded dad (Danza), while dealing with Lana, her family, and modern American life.

The pilot hails from CBS TV Studios and Greg Garcia’s Amigos De Garcia Productions. It is inspired by Maniscalco’s life. Earl will write. Scott Ellis is set to direct. Alix Jaffe, Garcia, and Ellis also executive produce.

Although Danza rose to fame in the Taxi TV series, and starred in the long-running sitcom Who’s the Boss, he has not had a regular TV role in more than a decade. His last was as Tony Cedano on the Family Law TV show, which was cancelled by CBS after three seasons, in 2002.
