On Secrets and Lies, a house painter and family man discovers a neighbor boy’s dead body in the woods and he quickly goes from being a Good Samaritan to a murder suspect. The lives of everyone around him are turned upside down by the ensuing police investigation and media attention. Did he really do it? The series stars Ryan Phillippe, Juliette Lewis, KaDee Strickland, Natalie Martinez, Dan Fogler, Indiana Evans, and Belle Shouse.
Debuting in March, the first two episodes of Secrets and Lies attracted a 1.53 rating in the 18-49 demographic with 6.06 million viewers. It wasn’t a great start but ABC’s been struggling to fill out its Sunday night schedule so it wasn’t bad by comparison. The numbers dipped only slightly in week two — a good sign. Most shows drop at least 15%. The numbers dipped lower over the next few weeks but then started to rise ever so slightly. Last week’s episode hit a series high in the all-important demo with a 1.7 rating and 5.83 million.
While the show’s ratings haven’t been great, the network has plenty of other trouble spots to fill — especially now that they’ve cancelled Revenge — and Secrets and Lies has performed well enough to be invited back for another 10 weeks. I suspect ABC will renew Secrets and Lies for a second season — likely with new characters and a new storyline (ala Fargo or True Detective).
But, what do you think? Do you like the Secrets and Lies TV show on ABC? Do you think it should be cancelled or renewed for a second season? If it is renewed, do you think any of the characters should return or should they start fresh?
