Sesame Street: Season 47 to Retool Elmo’s World

Sesame Street TV show on HBO

Looks like Elmo is making new friends. Variety reports the new season of Sesame Street will expand the long-running “Elmo’s World” segment.

Last year, the children’s series moved to HBO after airing on PBS for years. “Elmo’s World,” a 15 minute-long segment at the end of each episode, began in 1998.

In addition to Elmo’s old friends, Dorothy and Mr. Noodle, the new “Elmo’s World” segment will feature an animated cell phone named Smartie, live-action films, interactive games, and Mr. Noodle’s extended family—two brothers and his three dogs, Schmoodle, Floodle, and Frank.

The 25 five-minute segments are slated to premiere in season 47 of Sesame Street, which debuts in January.

From Sesame Street executive Brown Johnson:

We’re excited to bring back an inventive and interactive take on one of the most successful children’s television segments, ‘Elmo’s World,’ for today’s kids. Kids love to learn with Elmo, and they are sure to enjoy the beautiful new chalk-drawn world Elmo creates in his imagination. We are also thrilled to be working with the legendary ‘original’ Mr. Noodle, Bill Irwin, and proud to bring two new diverse and multi-talented Mr. Noodles into our ‘World.’”
