Sex and the City began as a hugely successful series that ran on HBO from 1998 to 2004. The show stars Sarah Jessica Parker, along with Kim Cattrall, Kristin Davis, and Cynthia Nixon as her best friends. Manhattan was never quite the same once these ladies hit the streets. Other performers include Chris Noth, David Eigenberg, Willie Garson, Kyle MacLachlan, John Corbett, Evan Handler, Jason Lewis, Lynn Cohen, James Remar, Mario Cantone and Frances Sternhagen.
Parker plays Carrie Bradshaw, a newspaper columnist who writes for a fictitious newspaper, The New York Star. Carrie never could get her relationships right with the guys, but she and her girlfriends are always there to pick one another up.
A follow-up to the TV show, the Sex and the City movie gives the main characters problems but they were essentially solved by the time the credits rolled at the end. To get out of her rut, Samantha breaks up with her longtime boyfriend, Smith (Lewis). Charlotte, happy with her adopted daughter, finally got pregnant. Miranda found out that her husband, Steve (Eigenberg), had been cheating. They separated but reunited at the end.
Yet, it was Carrie facing the most drama in her life during the Sex and the City film. She finally got engaged to her on-again off-again boyfriend, Mr. Big (Noth). He took a powder on their big day but Carrie’s friends got them back together by the end of the movie, in time for a quickie ceremony.

Where do all those happy endings leave us for a sequel? Well, we know that all four leads are confirmed and have signed on. Handler, who plays Charlotte’s husband Harry, hasn’t been contacted to appear yet. He’d like to do it but jokes to E! Online, “They could kill me off before the movie starts.”
Carrie’s assistant Louise (Jennifer Hudson) moved back home to her own romance at the end of the film. But, as writer/director Michael Patrick King explained “It can’t be called Sex and the City without a little color — it’s just wrong.” So, perhaps they’ll find a way for Louise to come back to Manhattan, looking for her old job.
As far as the sequel’s storyline, Parker says that it will take into account the current economic slump. She tells Access Hollywood, “How do we address these economic times in a franchise that has a lot to do with luxury and labels? How do we do that well? And how do we do that in a not lazy way? There is a lot that we have to think about because times are very different. So these are nice challenges, these are good challenges.”
It won’t be all doom and gloom though. Parker promises, “I think we want this one to be a romp. The last one, we got to tell a really mature sophisticated story that had real heartbreak in it, and this time, I think we want a romp. We want our audience to have a massive romp.”
It sounds like there will still be plenty of sex in the city.
