Fans of Cassandra Clare’s popular fantasy book series, The Mortal Instruments, don’t have to wait much longer. ABC Family (soon to be Freeform) has just released an exclusive first look at their anticipated television adaptation of Clare’s series, Shadowhunters.
The idea for a TV show version of the books comes after the cancelation of a planned film franchise. Constantin Film, the producers for the 2013 film adaptation, will continue as producers of the TV series, with Ed Decter and McG serving as executive producers.
Shadowhunters will follow the journey of Clary Fray (Katherine McNamara) who discovers she isn’t just your average human 18-year-old, but rather a shadowhunter—a human-angel hybrid warrior that battles demons.
The first season of Shadowhunters has been picked up for 13 episodes and will premiere on January 12, 2016.
