Sharp Objects: Season Two? Could the HBO Series Return?

Sharp Objects TV show on HBO: canceled or renewed?

Will there be a second season of Sharp Objects? Recently, showrunner Marti Noxon discussed the future of the HBO TV show, Deadline reports.

Based on the novel by Gillian Flynn, the drama stars Amy Adams as Camille Preaker, a reporter who returns “to her small hometown to file a story about two missing girls. One is found to have been gruesomely murdered while the other is still missing.” The cast also includes Patricia Clarkson, Chris Messina, Eliza Scanlen, Elizabeth Perkins, Matt Craven, Henry Czerny, Miguel Sandoval, Taylor John Smith, Sophia Lillis, and Madison Davenport.

At this year’s SXSW, Noxon addressed the possibility of a second season for Sharp Objects, saying:

Maybe there will be a sequel. Maybe we’ll get to find out [more about Adora and Camille’s sister]. Gillian and I have thoughts on it.”

Although, a second season may be difficult to arrange. Last year, HBO boss Casey Bloys revealed star Amy Adams did not want to return to the character given the show’s dark material:

Unlike Big Little Lies where all of the stars wanted to come back, Sharp Objects, it’s a very dark character, very dark material. Amy doesn’t want to live in this character again and I can’t blame her, it’s a lot to take on for an actress. So no plans for a second season. We are very happy with this living as a limited series.”

And more recently, Bloys reaffirmed this message, saying it would be hard to get everyone back for more episodes:

They haven’t come to us with anything, and my suspicion is one season was right for that show. I can’t imagine getting everybody back. The hard thing about these things that are one season is trying to get everybody back together, but also, it feels like the one season was the right thing for that show. It was the right ending, so I think that’s probably where it will stay.”

What do you think? Did you see Sharp Objects? Would you watch a second season?
