It’s said that two of the most stressful things in life are losing weight and getting married — imagine having to go through both at the same time. In this reality competition, that’s the challenge that nine overweight couples must face as they compete to see who can lose the most weight and win the wedding of their dreams.
Hosted by Sara Rue, nine diverse and engaged couples come to Los Angeles where they live together and compete over a three-month period. The couples all undergo dramatic physical and emotional transformations as they change their lifestyles and eating habits under the supervision of nutritionist Ashley Koff (RD). They also must endure hours of grueling workouts with trainers Nicky Holender and Jennifer Cohen.
During this time, the couples are also kept busy planning their fantasy weddings with the help of A-list planner Brian Worley. The unique character and background of each couple are taken into account when shaping the special ceremony of their dreams.
In each installment, the couples face off in a big physical challenge and compete to win one element for their wedding — from the invitations, to the cake, to the rings. Whatever they win they can keep, regardless of the overall game outcome. At the end of each episode, the couples step on the scale and are weighed together. The two couples who have lost the least amount of combined weight over the past seven days face off in an elimination challenge. The couple that loses that challenge are eliminated and lose their chance to win their fantasy wedding.
In the finale, the first seven eliminated couples return for one more weigh-in. The couple that has continued to lose the most weight while at home, on their own, win their fantasy honeymoon. Then, the final two couple face off for one last weigh-in. In the end, only one couple will win their fantasy wedding.
Episode eight
Team Eco-Lovers (Samantha and Brooks) won the show and lost 161lbs. combined, a loss of more than 30% of their weight. Team Fun & Games (Dawn and Adam) were the runners-up. They lost 112lbs. which represents a loss of 27% of their combined weight.
Team Big Band (Valerie and Dave) were eliminated in week five but returned in the finale to win the Dream Honeymoon to St. Croix. They lost 195lbs in total, a loss of nearly 32% of their pre-show body weight.
