Sherlock: Co-Creator Talks Ending the Series

Sherlock from BBC One will start production on its fourth season next year, but fans have nothing to worry about when it comes to the series being cancelled – at least not yet. The series, which stars Benedict Cumberbatch, will continue as long as he wants to play the character and BBC One wants to keep the series on the air.

Steven Moffat, one of the creators of the series, spoke about Sherlock briefly during an interview about Doctor Who with The Huffington Post. He compared Sherlock with Doctor Who, who has gone through several actors in the title role. That will not happen with Sherlock.

“For example, once Benedict Cumberbatch gives up ‘Sherlock,’ what are we going to do? We are going to stop, that’s what we are going to do.”

For now, Cumberbatch is very happy to continue on with the series. It is his schedule that has a tendency to get in the way. He called the role “invigorating” at an event last year.
