The mystery is over. Today, PBS announced season four of Sherlock will debut on New Year’s Day.
The new season reunites the famed consulting detective, Sherlock Holmes (Benedict Cumberbatch), with his partner in solving crime, John Watson (Martin Freeman). The cast also includes Rupert Graves, Mark Gatiss, Una Stubbs, Louise Brealey, and Amanda Abbington.
Season four of Sherlock kicks off on January 1st.

Sherlock will return in “The Six Thatchers” on January 1, 2017 on MASTERPIECE on PBS.
Coming in 2017, Sherlock will return with three brand-new episodes that promise laughter, tears, shocks, surprises and extraordinary adventures.
Season four begins with the mercurial Sherlock Holmes (Benedict Cumberbatch), back once more on British soil as Doctor Watson (Martin Freeman) and his wife Mary (Amanda Abbington) prepare for their biggest challenge yet: becoming parents.
Co-creators, writers and executive producers Steven Moffat and Mark Gatiss say: “Whatever else we do, wherever we all go, all roads lead back to Baker Street, and it always feels like coming home. Ghosts of the past are rising in the lives of Sherlock Holmes and John Watson and terror and tragedy are looming. This is the story we’ve been telling from the beginning and it’s about to reach its climax.”
Sherlock is written and created by Steven Moffat and Mark Gatiss, and inspired by the works of Sir Arthur Conan Doyle. Sherlock is produced by Sue Vertue and the executive producers are Beryl Vertue, Mark Gatiss and Steven Moffat for Hartswood Films, Bethan Jones for BBC Cymru Wales and Rebecca Eaton for MASTERPIECE.”
