Sherlock: The Abominable Bride: Watch the Making of Victorian London

Sherlock: The Abominable Bride TV show on PBS and BBC One: Victorian special episode

The game is on. In advance of the Sherlock special episode, “The Abominable Bride,” PBS has released a behind-the-scenes video, which documents all the work it takes to shoot a Victorian drama in contemporary London. Watch it, below.

Executive Producers Steven Moffat and Sue Vertue explain the production challenges. Stars Benedict Cumberbatch (Sherlock Holmes), Martin Freeman (Dr. John Watson), and Rupert Graves, (D.I. Lestrade), discuss how it feels to play their characters in a period piece, as opposed to the series’ usual contemporary setting.

In the US, Sherlock, “The Abominable Bride.” premieres on PBS, Friday, January 1, at 9:00pm, ET/PT, and will stream at the same time, on PBS.org. In UK, the special airs on BBC One, also on New Year’s Day. This marks the first time an episode of Sherlock has aired on the same day, on both sides of the pond.
