TV show description:
Originally airing in the Fall of 2016 in Canada, and cancelled by CBC, the Shoot the Messenger TV show is Canadian political-crime thriller. The drama centers on the complications which exist in relationships between reporters and the police.

The story follows young reporter Daisy Channing (Levesque), who is trying to strike a balance between her fledgling career and a personal life that isn’t exactly tidy. After witnessing a murder she suspects is gang related, Daisy is drawn into a network of sex, crime, and political power that has the potential to destroy her loved ones.

As bright and dogged as she is beautiful, Daisy is intent upon making her mark in the world of journalism. When she witnesses the murder of a source’s friend, her chance at a big scoop is complicated by the fact that her boyfriend, Kevin Lutz (Bent) is the detective on the case, and he is not inclined to help her pursue the story.

Curiosity is reputed to have killed the cat and it may prove unhealthy for Daisy and her family, as well. As a recovering cocaine addict, she has to be careful to avoid her certain temptations, and this case is full of them. Meanwhile, she’s neglecting her brain-damaged father, which is not helping her relationship with her sister.

As a senior reporter, Simon Olenski (Bryant) has seen a lot of things rookie Daisy has not. He’s already on the outs with the police force, so watching Daisy pursue this case frustrates him. Now, their editor, Mary Foster (Alex Kingston), expects him to mentor the young woman. As he feels his attraction to her growing, he knows it could jeopardize his relationship with his fiancée.

As the editor at The Gazette, Mary is as tough as nails and expects the same from her staff. Luckily for Daisy, Mary recognizes something of herself in the cub reporter. With her help, as well as the support of Simon and Kevin, Daisy discovers a scandalous coverup which could topple the government.
