What’s This TV Show About?
A hybrid live-action/animated comedy airing on the FOX television network, Son of Zorn follows the animated Zorn (Jason Sudekis). As the Defender of Zephyria, Conqueror of the tribes of Agon, and decapitator of the dark herdsmen of Grith, Zorn has fought in countless epic battles throughout his life. Now, his greatest challenge may be reconnecting with his suburban, live-action family. His mellow teen son Alangulon aka “Alan” (Johnny Pemberton) has a penchant for political correctness. Alan’s mom, Edie (Cheryl Hines), is Zorn’s ex-wife. A former wild child, Edie now lives the life of an upper-middle-class mom. Her stable fiancé, Craig (Tim Meadows), is an online psychology professor who complicates Zorn’s pursuits. Meanwhile at work, Zorn’s boss Linda (Artemis Pebdani) appreciates his passion. She just wants him to rein it in, at their industrial soap sales office.
Season One Ratings
The first season of Son of Zorn is averaging a 1.29 rating in the 18-49 demographic and 3.03 million viewers. Check out how Son of Zorn stacks up against the other FOX TV shows.
On May 11, 2017, Son of Zorn was cancelled so there won’t be a second season. Could it be revived somehow? Stay tuned for further updates.
Telly’s Take
Son of Zorn premiered with a 2.44 in the coveted 18-49 year old demo with 6.13 million viewers. The fish-out-of-water sitcom’s ratings bounce up and down, depending on its lead-in to help draw viewers. When FOX doesn’t have a football game in the late afternoon, Son of Zorn’s ratings are typically poor. The network could keep Son of Zorn around for a second season but I suspect they will cancel it and try something new instead. I think Zorn will be heading back to his island home soon.
