TV show description:
This sitcom focuses on three brothers who hire a man they don’t know to act as their father after their own goes off to prison.
Gary Gunderson (Frank Dolce), 11, is a smart kid, and as the middle son, also the most like his father, the con man. His older brother Brandon, (Matthew Levy), 13, isn’t as bright and doesn’t have the same realistic view of life. Little brother Robby (Benjamin Stockham), 8, is another son who takes after his dad and doesn’t respect authority very much at all.
The three brothers find slobby Ron Snuffkin (Tyler Labine) working as a clerk at a sports store. Ron hasn’t had a lot of successes in life and lives in his car. He is hired to pose as their father so that the boys can stay together in their home. He relies on skills he didn’t know he had, trying to be the father he thinks they need. It starts out as an obvious business arrangement, but soon, as unorthodox as it may be, they become a family unit.
Ron and the boys go to great lengths to hide their true lack of familial connection from everyone, including Maggie Morales (Natalie Martinez), Robby’s second grade teacher, who grows quite suspicious.
Justin Berfield (Reese on Malcom In the Middle) is a producer behind this sitcom. Greg Bratman and Tommy Dewey created and wrote for the show, having met at Princeton University, performing improv and in two-man shows.
Episode 13 — Ron Quits
Back together, Ron and Gina are spending so much time together that he’s neglecting his duties to the boys. He even forgets about the block party meeting that he offered to have at their house. Angela, the former block party chair, is particularly upset and doesn’t believe him when he offers to arrange for the Blue Angels to do a flyover.
The boys force Ron to make a choice and he chooses Gina. He moves out after discovering the secret deluxe bedroom that they’ve been saving for their father while Ron’s been stuck sleeping on the couch.
After he’s gone, the boys learn that their father’s bank account’s been frozen and they’re out of money. They live sparingly and sell almost everything they have to buy food and necessities. They’ve rented Ron’s space to their neighbor’s obnoxious adult kid, Barry (guest Justin Berfield). Gina gets upset with Ron when he refuses to accept the assistant manager position at the store.
Two weeks later, we learn that Ron’s been “camping” at the store and also been secretly keeping an eye on the kids from afar. He shows up at the block party and doesn’t know that the boys are in real trouble.
Barry has eaten the last of their food, Robby is trying to get himself adopted by anyone that will have him, and Barry doesn’t show up to take his shift in the dunk tank. Ron takes his place and Gary is so angry with him that he uses their last dollar to dunk Ron four times. While Gary gets his anger out, Ron learns the truth about their finances.
Ron offers to take the assistant manager position at the store so he can make enough money to support them. Gary points out that he’d take the job for them but not for Gina. Ron takes care of Barry and gives him a huge wedgie on a fire truck ladder. As Angela comes to rag on Ron, the Blue Angels fly over.
The boys offer Ron their dad’s room and he’s touched. Of course, all of the furniture’s been sold. The episode ends with Ron finally teaching Robby how to make arm farts.
