Soul Train is coming to BET. The Wrap reports the network has bought the rights to the long-running music and dance series.
Created and hosted by Don Cornelius, Soul Train began in 1971 as a showcase for soul, R&B, disco, jazz, and gospel music. The series lasted until 2006, broadening its scope to hip hop and other genres in later years.
BET already has a history with the variety series. Since 2009, the network has hosted the Soul Train Music Awards, which celebrates African-American music and entertainment.
Now, BET has access to Soul Train‘s library of more than 1,000 episodes and 40 specials. The network plans on expanding the series’ brand to possible live events and other music-related content.
